                                                                               India Gate

This place needs no introduction. It is a gateway to Delhi - "India Gate". It looks splendid in the evenings, and a must visit during the weeks nearing Independence Day and Republic Day. It has been surrounded by beautiful grounds and fountains. People come here with children and enjoy the cool breeze especially during the evenings. Lot of people come for morning walk as well.

The place is just next to War Memorial. It is also close to Parliament house. The parade also takes place on the approach road towards India Gate and all are these places are in straight road. Neta ji Subhash Chandra statue is also located just between India Gate and War Memorial.

The place looks beautiful especially in the evening as it is lighted with tri-color. A beautiful garden has been maintained around India Gate where families and students visit in the evenings to enjoy the serenity of the place. The gardens have beautiful fountains and professional photographs can be clicked by paying as low as Rs 20.

Just between India Gate and War Memorial is Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Statue. He has been pivotal in Indian Freedom Struggle.

India Gate and Netaji Status is open for visiting 24 hours of the day and can be visited anytime, expect on special occasions such as 15th Aug and 26th Jan when special security arrangements are made for the safety of our ministers.

National War Memorial

This is a place of national importance as freedom fighters are remembered here who have sacrificed their lives for protecting our nation. Amar Jawan Jyoti was set up in 1972 under the Arch of India Gate and was moved to National War Memorial in 2019.

Amar Jawan Jyoti flame continues even since it was set up, irrespective of the time of the day, or weather of the year.

Every evening around 6:45 pm, there is a ceremony where our Defense Forces pay tribute to the brave soldiers. Family of the martyrs are called up to pay respect to their family member as well as all the brave Indian soldiers.

Ugrasen Ki Baoli

Nearby Connaught Place is Ugrasen Ki Baoli. Famous bollywood movies like PK and Sultan have been shot here. It is a step-well which is believed to be set up by King Agrasen. It is open from sunrise to senset - 6 am to 6 pm.

The monument is preserved by Archeological Survey of India.

It is also believed that the place is haunted and is advised not to visit after sunset, due to some incidents in the past.

Red Fort

Since childhood, we have always seen our honorable Prime Minister deliver speech on Independence Day. I always wanted to visit it since I was a child and was able to fulfil my dream after shifting to Delhi. There is a nominal fee of Rs 35 for Indians. It opens at 9;30 am everyday except Monday. The palace is situated next to Chandni Chowk and there is a metro station which reaches directly at the entry gate of the Lal Quila.

There are tourist guides which can take you through the history of the palace. Recently, the government has started a sound and light show with a fee of Rs 500 - this is a must visit show and operates at 7;30 pm. This show is unique in the sense that it will take you through the entire fort while explaining the history and importance of each part of the fort.

This evening show takes you through the entire Red Fort and there are artists enacting the show, with a powerful voice over by the legendary Amitabh Bachchan. Do not miss it as it is a must watch when in Delhi.

                                                                        Qutub Minar

After India Gate and Red Fort, Qutub Minar is the most often visited place by the tourists. I must say it is a must visit especially in the evenings. There is a sound and light show at 8 pm every day, which makes the visit to the place worth it. This show depicts the diversity in India and the need to preserve our villages. There is an entry ticket for adults for Rs 40, while children under the age of 15 years enjoy a free entry to the Qutub Complex. There is an Iron Pillar which was made of Pure Iron in the 16th Century and is still intact, showing the purity of the metal as well as the architectural quality of the ancient times. There is a Mughal gate and a few other moments inside the complex which can be visited. The place needs around 1 hour to enjoy and appreciate history.

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

I happen to visit the famous Gurudwara on Apr 7, 2023. This is quite similar to the Golden Temple in many ways and if you are not able to go to Amritsar but stay in and around Delhi, a visit to this gurdwara can satisfy you to a large extent.

The first thing I noticed about this place was a large and convenient parking which was not expecting at all and that too completely free of charge. After depositing my slippers at the Jodi Ghar, I went to Darbar for Darshan, which was peaceful though bit crowded due to extended weekend. Next, I proceeded to the water body which has a similar ambience as the Golden temple, with fish in it and also taking bath is considered to be auspicious. After a quick dip in the holy water, we proceeded for "langar" - the guru ka prasad. The food (dal, kadi, roti, rice) was a satisfying experience and much needed as it was 3 pm already. The langar timings are 9 am to 4 pm and 9 pm to 10 pm every day, morning tea is served from 6 am to 9 am. This service is free of charge.

                                                                        Langer Seva

If this was not all, we were served with Kadah Prasad (Halwa) as we were coming out to take our slippers. This is made of Desi Ghee and cannot be missed. It is loved by people of all age groups. There is also paid prasad for Rs 20 (halwa, laddoo) which can be brought from inside the complex itself.

It took us almost 2 - 3 hours as it was a weekend, and we also enjoyed holy bath and had langar. When in rush, it can be done in less than an hour. We decided to visit Birla Temple, which was just 1.4 kms from the Gurudwara.

                                                            Laxmi Narayan (Birla) Mandir

Main Entrance of the temple complex

The temple complex is mainly dedicated to Lord Vishnu. Mobiles phones are not allowed in the temple complex and can be submitted along with the shoes at the shoe stand. The car parking is also available at a nominal fee of Rs 20.

The first thing which one will witness as we enter is the beautiful Laxmi ji and Vishnu Ji statue, which is the main attraction of the temple. Towards the left is Maa Vishno Devi and towards the right is Lord Shiva. Outside the temple complex, there are Ganesh ji and on the other side are Hanuman ji.

If this is not all, there is another complex called Geeta Bhawan. This is not to be missed as there are mesmerizing status of Lord Vishnu, Ram Darban (Shree Ram, Sita, and Laxman), Radha Krishna, and a Lord Krishna real-like statue.

Once we come out of the temple complex, just behind it is the park with attractive animal statues which cannot be missed due to their size. I, myself, could not resist taking pictures with them.

The park has Sai Baba temple. It also hosts a Shiva Temple, which gives a cave like feeling as we enter it. A short visit to the park can definitely rejuvenate the kids.
                                                                    Lord Shiva temple

There is also a shop to buy some souvenirs related to God. Overall, the visit to Birla temple was fulfilling and refreshing.

                                                     Ganesha Temple, Sector 12, Dwarka

Recently, I was passing from Sector 12 and could not believe my eyes. I could see a tall Ganesha Statue. I had to stop and visit the place to see and feel it. The moment I went closer to the idol, i realized that my size was just equivalent to the size of the mouse which was kept next to Lord Ganesha Statue.

Sai Baba Temple, Sector 22, Dwarka

My wife wanted to visit Sai baba temple and I started looking for a temple in Dwarka. I was pleasantly surprised when I visited this temple in Sec 22. The Sai baba Statue was almost the same as we had seen in Shirdi. They also have aartis in the same manner and timing as in Shirdi. I could not have asked for more.

                                                GodhamTemple, Sector 10, Dwarka

It was Janamashmi on Sep 7, 2023. I decided to explore some options and visited the Godham Mandir in Sector 10. It was beautifully decorated, and the environment was peaceful. There was not too much crowd either, which made it a place worth visiting.

                                                             Nagpal's, Sector 10, Dwarka

If you want to have some Chole Bhature, then Nagpal's is a must in Dwarka. It opens at 8:00 and closes at 5:00 pm in the evening. Paneer Bhature with Chole costs Rs 120 (2 pieces), and with lassi costs Rs 170. They also have Poori with Chole option for those who want to avoid Maida.

Khatu Shyam Dham, Delhi ByPass road (towards Muruthal)

                                                                    Shree Ram Dhaba, Gurgaon

Hanuman Mandir, Karol Bagh / Jhandewala

Most of us would have seen this statue in serials whenever the director wants to show that scene is shot in Delhi. This Hanuman Status is located near Karol Bagh and nearest metro station is Jhandewala. The entire temple has four floors and one can walk through each floor. Each floor is just inside the big Hanuman statue and we can climb each floor for different Lords on each floor. The fourth floor is the top most with panchmukhi hanuman idol.

There is a Mata Vaishno Devi Cave also located just below the Hanuman Temple.

This is an interesting place to visit.
