Bangkok - A city catering to every tourist

                                                             Bangkok

There are only three kinds of people -

  • One - who have visited Bangkok,
  • Second - who are planning to visit Thailand, and
  • Third - who continue to dream that they will visit Thailand one fine day.
I am the lucky one as I fall in the first two categories. Every time I visit Bangkok, I start planning for my next trip to Bangkok. This is not because of any wrong reasons but because the city has so much to offer to each visitor. The city is a hub for shopping, night life, thai message, traiditional thai cuisine, tourism, temples, wildlife, and so much more. I have been to the city every year since 2006 for official visits expect the covid years, and still not over it. The official contacts have turned into friends, they have started suggesting me the itinerary and places I should visit not only in Bangkok but to Phuket, Chiang Mai, Krabi, and Phi-phi islands. One of the contacts was generous enough to offer contact of his personal message center. It is difficult to say "no" not to the message centers but to the Thai Mango Sticky Rice, the delicious coconut water, the floating markets, the experience sitting next to a tiger, snokling at the cristal clear phi-phi islands, the calmness at the Chiang Mai temples, shopping at Pratunam, visiting the exotic malls such as Icon Siam and Central where you can get all brands in this world, or enjoying the night life with a cruise in the choa phraya river or the glowing China Town market. One visit to Thailand is just never enough.

This time my visit was limited to Bangkok city only. I could get to some of the popular malls in the evening post I was free from work.

The recent one and very beautifully built is the Icon Siam Mall. This has been located at one of the piers and reaching to the mall is interesting in itself if we go there by a tourist boat. The mall boasts of a beautiful waterfall at the higher floors, which has been appreciated much even by the critics that this is one of the best malls far better than those in Europe or US. The mall has a great footfall especially towards the evening. The pier is also a starting point for several evening and night cruises.

The below picture is captured from the inside of MBK mall. It is one the popular malls in Bangkok city and lot of tourists visit the place for shopping electronic goods on the fourth floor. The outside of the mall is the first picture that you see in this post. This mall is popular because the first time I visited Bankok in 2006 and we had four hour's time before my flight to Phuket and asking the driver where shall we go, he took us to MBK mall.
Big C is a great place to shop when you are staying for long and want things for daily use be it soap, or rice for cooking, for any groceries. There is a 7-Eleven at almost every street which also comes in handy. The prices are affordable and they have almost everything right from milk to sunscreen lotions or crackers for a quick bite.

The below pic is from Central World Mall. This is the most happening and central place in Bangkok. Name a brand and you get it, name a type of cuisine and you will find it here, it is not a mall - it is a world in itself. One needs a couple of hours to explore it fully. It is well connected to the BTS via sky walk.

Palladium Mall is situated diagonally opposite to Platinum Mall. All the malls have different things to offer depending on the interest and the age group of the tourists.

The Platinum Mall - this is a desire for every woman. The mall is a reason that all girls must visit Bangkok at least once in life. One can see all the latest and trendy clothes under one roof. It is impossible to be in Platinum mall and not shop.

There is a night market which is set up after the Pratunam market is closed at 4 pm. This is interesting as this area is lively even till mid-night. There are a lot of Indian restaurants in the vicinity of Indra Market which makes it easier for a vegetarian Indian like me who needs to have an Indian meal at least once in a day to avoid being home sick.

I could only explore this much in the trip as I was staying for a short time and had a packed week. I will try to take out a few more days in my next trip so that I can explore the city more and take you more places with me.

Till then, do keep a Thailand trip in mind as it is extremely good from travel point of view, on the pocket as well, and a hub for shopping.
